MOVEMENT

A research conference on the impact of mobilities to people and landscapes
from Antiquity to the present day
AUGUST 25-27 2023 at SAMARINA Greece

Addressing the impact of past and present mobilities

Studies on human mobility focus mainly on either describing mobilities or understanding the factors that initiated the movement. As part of the Finds Stories project, MOVEMENT will be the first transdisciplinary conference that discusses the impact that different mobilities have from prehistory to the present day. We aim to explore how different mobilities impact human bodies, societies, landscapes, biodiversity, and how we can address this impact to offer a better future to both the mobile and the sedentary communities. The conference will take place deep in the Pindos mountains in the region of Grevena, a region characterised by multiple mobilities, historical and contemporary. Specifically, it will take place in the transhumance village of Samarina between 25th and 27th August 2023. Movement welcomes contributions from Archaeologists, Biological and Social Anthropologists, Ethnographers, Historians, Geographers, Sociologists, Educators, and any other specialist that are working to identify the impact of mobility.

Movement will be hosted at the hotel Aristomenis in Samarina. For more Information about travel to Samarina and accommodation options please click samarina_information.pdf  or you can contract the conference secretary, Pangiota Korompli at [email protected]
